YCF GHS Memorial Rides - Sunday 15th April 2012


George Herbert Stancer OBE was born at Pocklington on 17th April 1878. He became a member of the Yorkshire road Club in 1898 and remained so until his death in 1962. For 25 years he was secretary and for 14 years President of the Cyclists’ Touring Club. It is in memory of this fine Yorkshireman that the GHS rides are promoted annually on a Sunday near his birthday. - List of events - Entry form

RNLI Whitby Cycle - Saturday 21 April

The RNLI Cycle is designed to appeal to a wide audience of supporters, and will take place on Saturday 21 April 2012. We have planned 2 distances to suit all tastes; 20 miles and 40 miles. Both routes take in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside.

It will cost £16.00 to enter the 20 mile route and £18.00 to enter the 40 mile route.

Entries include a free RNLI Tshirt to cycle in and all participants will also be asked to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship.

The Marmotte has closed it's web site after receiving more than 6000 entries in just one day for the 2012 event. But you can read all about last years ride here and how Steve Smith and Pete McGowen gave Miguel Indurain a run for his money in the Italian equivelant - La Marmotte/Gran Fondo 2011

 

North Mids VTTA Luncheon

The presentation of prizes for North Midland VTTA members was held on the 27th of November at the Carlton Park Hotel in Rotherham. The main prize of Best all Rounder was won be Trevor Mayne of Birdwell Wheelers. YRC's Alan Jones results were:
Winner of the BRIAN BEARDSLEY MEMORIAL CUP
2nd in the Group B.A.R. Competition
26 points and 4th place in the Prestige Trophy Competition
9th in the Group Short Distance Competition
3rd in the Group Middle Distance Competition
38th in the National B.A.R. Competition
66th in the National Middle Distance Competition

Annual Dinner and Dance 2011

This year’s annual prize presentation took on a different format in the way of an evening dinner dance. Ninety three people attended with over half staying on to socialise and test their skills on the dance floor. Phil Graves was Guest of Honour and was professionally interviewed by a very composed Paul Cummins who put him to the test with questions from the floor, Phil only wavered slightly on a couple of questions from Carl Saint and Ian Fairweather who were interested in his cycling attire.

Results

“Club Scrap” 15 mile Time Trial - Sunday 9th October 2011.

A windy morning saw 19 riders turn out for this year’s race. Ashley Walls & Mark Johnson produced solid rides for joint 1st place with a time of 35:44. James Atkinson and Richard Hamilton put in good rides coming 3rd and 4th respectively. Mike Shacklock took the Veterans Standard Award ahead of Peter Macklam. A good ride from Steve Mooring took the 1st on Handicap Club Award. - Full Results

The 2011 overall winner was Richard Hamilton (Yorkshire Velo) with John Bomeley (YRC) and Adrian Stott (YRC).

Adam Duggleby has ridden the fastest time for several years with a 26:45.

Lewis Barry Memorial Ride - Sun, 11th Sep 2011

Following a massively successful first ride last year in which nearly 200 riders crossed the Pennines from the National Cycling Centre in Manchester to Lewis' home town of Garforth, a 48 mile circular route based on Lewis' favourite training circuit has been chosen for this year's ride. - Details

YRC “Tudor Rose” Open 25 - June 18th 2011, Course V236/1

A fine, if a little breezy day – the threatened rain kept away, and there was even a bit of sun at times. Winning the event and setting a new course record was Keith Murray (Ferryhill Whs) 51-49. Robin Brennan ( Preston CC) was 2nd with 53-42 with YRC rider Ian Fairweather (Yorkshire RC) 3rd in 53-45, Vince Macklam (Yorkshire RC) was 4th in 53-51.

Dave Stone - Gold and Silver medals in Segovia

Gold in Segovia

Mutiple World and Paralympic Champion David Stone showed his dominance in the T2 Time Trial by finishing one minute ahead of the competition and came second in the T2 Road Race, narrowly missing out on gold to Italy's Georgio Farroni. - Full BC report

 

Simon West wins the final race

Tockwith - Yorkshire County Spring Championships.

Gradually improving his performance in each event Simon West (YRC) won the final race and series. The races were held on the Tockwith closed circuit and there were 6 races in the Yorkshire County Spring Championships. Simon rode all of the races scoring points in each and moving up to 3rd cat in the process.

Brian Robinson Challenge Ride - 17th April 2011

The Brian Robinson Challenge

 

The ‘Robbo’ as it is known amongst cyclists is a 75 mile cycle circuit which offers riders the opportunity to take in some of the country’s most iconic climbs, Holme Moss, for example, has featured in cycling events at the highest level for over half a century. The ride is named after Britain’s first Tour de France stage winner who still lives in nearby Mirfield and used many of these roads as his training ground.
