The Village, Headingley, Leeds Another successful Steve Smith organised event. This year saw ninety three people attending at 'The Village' for this years Club Lunch. Reluctant 'Guest of Honour' Carl Saint, had been persuaded into accepting the role by Steve Smith. Carl was composed and fluent as he faced many difficult questions during his interview, only showing signs of stress when asked if he intended riding the Marmotte on his trike next year. The event went without hitch this year, no fire alarms to break the day up. This obviously meant that the beer and wine flowed faster, and a few tales of excess by normally strict athletes have been heard of since.
Many thanks to the following for their help: Terry & Jean Boyle, John & Linda Hardy for their help on the day. Phil Hurt for the prize winners card. John Hardy, MC, Club President Mike Breckon for interviewing Carl Saint. Mike started out as a young racer who was part of the Yorkshire Road Club's winning British Best All-Rounder team of 1958, through being the Canadian team manager at the 1970 Commonwealth and 1972 Olympic Games, to working in marketing with Raleigh in the Nineties.
